Okay,

So, the angle of the front of the frame was wrong, the centres of the lenses were too far apart and too low, making seeing hard work, killing my concentration and giving me eyeache. The opticians aren't ruling out an error in the prescription just yet, but are getting new lenses made up with the centers actually in the correct place on both x and y axes in both lenses at the same time first. So. Another week's wait in the old pair then.

And if that works, we can start on what's wrong with the other pair.

You know, it's possible that sorting out this pair of glasses might just be more straightforward than usual.
